Peckoltia sp. L377
Before it was assigned the number L377 in DATZ 3/2005, this fish was traded mostly as Prince Tiger Pleco. It was never the most popular of Loricariidae species, but as a matter of fact I find it to be a bit underestimated! Most pictures available of them show rather dull, pale individuals with those typical broad, dark markings against a light backround. But, as the pictures on our profile here shows, L377 can in fact show off some really good looks under the right circumstances and after some time with proper care. It’s not that rare in the hobby, even though it’s not on the IBAMA positive list in Brazil. The offspring looks especially cool, with very broad, vertical dark bands on the body and some nice orange colour in the fins.

Often wild fish needs some proper care and feeding to regain their strength and vitality, and when they are happy and relaxed they will show off a beautiful orange colour in the fins. Stressed individuals are pale with slightly washed out markings. L377 is an omnivore, so a varied diet is required. After a period of mainteance and conditioning the fish should be possible to breed in typical Peckoltia manor. Clean, warm water with good movement and a tank furnished with decent caves and other hiding places makes the fish feel relaxed, and the males will eventually show off some odontodal growth, although not as prominent as in most other Peckoltia species.
